Hau tree cordage material. This cord making material is made from the Hau Bush which grows on the Hawaiian islands. The bark of the tree has been cured in water for many weeks. Once cured the the inner bark can be woven into rope, either twisted or braided. I cured this for a long time so it is white, soft and very strong. The ribbons are are long to short 6 ft to 2 ft sections. Is has many uses besides rope making. It can be dyed, used for packaging string, hula skirts, necklaces, bracelets and used to teach how to make traditional Hawaiian rope a dying art form. I personally use the material to weave cord for making baskets and I used to offer necklaces made from the cord also.
